How to be Subway Smart

Subway is a popular chain of sandwich restaurants that is supposed to be a healthy alternative to other fast food options. They offer a lot of sub choices and they even have pizza now. But, should you really eat fresh?

In order to be “Subway Smart,” you need to follow a few simple rules…

1.) Don’t order anything with steak. They taste weird and processed. They’re also pretty skimpy with the steak, but you might be glad they didn’t give you more.

2.) Don’t visit at the end of the day. Subway keeps out most of their ingredients like meat, cheese, and vegetables for the entire day, so if you go to a Subway at night, you are gonna be getting the stuff that is almost on its way out.

3.) Stick with the turkey. It’s the healthiest and best option on the menu.

4.) Go with a salad. If you don’t mind not having the sub roll, you can turn any 6 inch sub into a salad for only a $1. The salads are a really good size and they are healthy, filling, and low carb.

5.) Toast it. Toasting the bread makes the Subway sandwiches a lot more crispy, crunchy, melty, and tasty.

6.) Don’t forget the Sweet Onion Sauce. This sauce is the best option they have and it is low fat so its a lot better for you than drowning everything in mayonnaise.

7.) Load it with veggies. You can put all the vegetables you want on any sub, so go for it. I recommend the banana peppers, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and olives. They give you lots of flavor fiber.

So, overall I would give Subway a 5 out of 10. I’ve had some really good experiences there, but also some really bad ones. It’s all about knowing what you’re doing when you go there and what to stay away from.

I love Subway and so many people tell me they don’t. You are right about the meat there. I usually get a veggie with EVERYTHING and bacon. The bacon is not that bad for you, and it’s that skimpy bacon so not too high calorie. It’s like eating a salad with bread. I don’t get mayo or mustard, just oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. I also get their wheat bread which is very good. I think the bread is the best part. They bake it right there. Subway is the place for people are not looking for hot subs. They have very fresh veggies and if that’s what you enjoy then Subway is a good choice.
